Industry: Heze has a relatively complete industrial system. It has eight pillar industries of power, machinery, textiles, light industry, papermaking, food, and medicine. The city produces products of 30 kinds and 2000 specifications. Many famous enterprises, for instance Hong Kong Bros Holding Ltd., Yuh Chia Co. Ltd (Taiwan), Tsingtao Beer Co., Shandong Luneng, Luhua Guop, China Resources Co. Ltd., and New Hope Group, all set up their business in Heze.

Agriculture: Heze is an important grain and cotton production base in China. The agricultural vegetation covers an area of 9133 kectares, or 69% of the total land area in Heze. The majority of the plantation area can bring two harvests a year or three harvests every two years, annually yielding 3.5 million tons of grain and 230 thousand tons of cotton. Heze is also the biggest forestry base in China’s plain areas. With its 1900 kectares of forest, 7213.3 hectares of forest network on farmlands, Heze is named as Standard Forestation City. The annual wood processing capacity of Heze is 5 million m3. Meanwhile, the project of 1333.3 hectares of quick growing forest is being implemented, and the project of 333.3 hectares of bamboo transfer has also laid its cornerstones. After completion of these projects, the percentage of forest cover in Heze is expected to reach 41%.

Livestock Farming: The moist climate of Heze provides natural pastures for livestock farming. The city’s plantation industry annually provides 2 billion kg of fine forage, 7.5 billion kg of straw, and 3.5 billion kg of tree leaves and forage grass. Fine forage includes alfalfa, Mexican corn, and Dongmu 70 rye, etc. Aiming to take advantage of the natural resources, different kinds of livestock farming bases emerge in Heze. Altogether 7 counties/districts were appointed national export base for goat leather and Luxi cattles. Meat processing Industry of Heze can process 50 thousand tons of beef and 60 thousand tons of lamb per year, and the products are exported to the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, etc.

Foreign Trades: Abundant in resources, Heze has great potential in foreign trade. The export and import value in foreign trade keeps an annual 50%-plus rise since 2000. Year 2003 saw the export and import value of $312.1 million, 85.2% over the last year. The export accounts for $292.26 million, 87.5% over the last year. There are 400-plus enterprises eligible for export and import business in the city. More than 100 countries and regions have trade relations with Heze, including Japan, ROK, Russia, USA, the EU and HK. The main products are timber products, willow weaving, asparagus, vegetables, fur and leather products, man’s hair, textile garment, medicine and chemical industry products.
Heze is seizing the opportunity of industrial transfer brought out by the global trade and the economic upturn, further strengthen measures, actively explore the international market and try to enlarge the export and import scale. According to the principle of maximizing favorable factors and minimizing unfavorable ones and exert the strong points, the city will emphasize the development of the following relatively strong industries: timber products, textile garments, vegetables and fruits processing, fur and leather processing, medicine chemical industry and man’s hair processing. Centering on its leading industries, Heze will choose to develop a group of backbone enterprises that are of large production scale, large export capability, strong leading power and promising future. It aims to reach $0.6 billion export and import gross value at the end of the Tenth Five Years Plan. Heze will further optimize the structure of export products and try to enhance the quality and improve the grade of the export products; accelerate the transfer from first processing to further and fine processing in order to increase the export volume of some products with high-tech and high additional value; fully make use of the convenient transport and the rich labor force resources of Heze to develop a group to processing trade enterprises; avail the advantage that both the materials and markets abroad, and increase the export and import trade; besides, the city will further enhance the exploitation of the international markets, actively organize the enterprises to take part in the important export and import commodities trade fairs and exhibitions at home and abroad accordingly and encourage the enterprises to consolidate and expand the traditional market as well as to exploit the European, American, African and Russian markets which have great potential.
